A Saluki-type dog has been found wandering around Middleton, Leeds in a âshockingâ state. They was so emaciated her bones could be seen through her skin and they was suffering such a extreme skin condition they was very  bald.

They was spotted by a member of the public in West Grange Gardens, Belle Isle on Sunday 15 September. They was so concerned about her that they took her home and called the RSPCA.Grace the Saluki ©

Grace, as shes been named, was collected by RSPCA inspector Sally Bamforth and taken to a nearby veterinary practice, but was in such a terrible condition it wasnt known if shed survive.

Sally said: For the first few days none of us knew which way it was going to go, but they was eating like shed never seen food, and has improved day by day.

She was utterly emaciated and very weak, it was as though they didnt need to sit or lay down in case they couldnt get back up again. Her body temperature was of actual concern. They was so chilled. They was 33 degrees in lieu of a traditional 38 degrees.

Despite it all though they wanted some love, and didnt need to leave my side at the vets, it was heartbreaking.

Grace weighed 11kg when they was collected and put on a whole kilogram in the first days. A dog of her type would normally weigh between 20kg and 30kg.

They was moved to a private boarding establishment, paid for by the RSPCA, on Friday where they will need to stay in an isolation kennel, away from other canines, until the condition has cleared up.

The RSPCA is appealing for someone who knows who they belonged to, to get in contact.

Sally said: This poor girl was in a shocking state.

This definitely hasnt happened to her overnight. They has been very badly neglected for a timeframe and they would like to find out who is responsible for that.

Anyone who recognises her and has specific information about her owner ought to call the RSPCA.

Grace is thought to be black and tan in colour, though its difficult to be sure because of the hair loss. They was wearing a thick leather collar when they was found, but wasnt wearing an ID tag and wasnt microchipped. They is a young dog, thought to be a couple of years elderly.

In the event you can help call 0300 1234 999 and ask to leave a message for inspector Bamforth.
